Take the photocopy of your keyfob and cut out the center opening. It doesn't have to be perfect - just try to get it as close as you can!
Overlay the photocopy onto the keyfob to make sure the openings are approximately the same size.
Now layer the photocopy over your stitched canvas. Make sure there are no bare rows of canvas peeking through the sides.
*If you see bare canvas, put in a few more stitches to cover any exposed canvas.
Cut your stitched canvas, leaving 2-3 intersections or rows around the design.
Test fit the canvas in the opening. If you see a bump, or it doesn't lay flat, that means you need to trim away some more canvas.
*You can usually tell what needs to be trimmed if it's folded or distorted when you take the canvas out.
With your X-acto knife, make an X in the adhesive backing. Pull the backing up from the center of the X and discard.
Without pressing down, center your canvas over the opening. Once you're happy with the placement, press down in the center to adhere the canvas.
Go around the opening, tucking in the edges. Then with your smoothing tool*, make sure the canvas is adhered all the way around.
*I used the flat end of a bodkin, which is a common sewing tool, but you can use any flat metal object, such as a spreader, as long as it doesn't have any teeth that the canvas can possibly catch on.
You're done! Wasn't that easy? Enjoy your new key fob or bag charm!
